Celebrating 5 years together!

As I mentioned here, we celebrated our 5 year anniversary last Friday! We decided to carve out some time to do something fun. I was not disappointed!

Thursday evening we decided to have a date night. Just like many married couples, we swore we wouldn’t let life get in the way of things and keep us from spending time together. But not surprisingly we’ve fallen prey to that same fate. What I can say is that having a date night made me realize how incredibly important they are for the health of our marriage! We concluded the evening with the new goal to try to do this at least once a month, if not more! Our date night consisted of dinner at Peel in Edwardsville. If you live in the area and haven’t tried it, it is a must! We had a few beers on draft, ate some delicious prosciutto involtini, split a house salad and a Ricotta pizza that is to die for! After the pizza we went and saw the movie Life as We know it. It was actually more serious than I anticipated, but don’t get me wrong, we laughed out loud A LOT! So it’s another pick I’d recommend. We had a great time and I enjoyed a chance to talk to my hubby for a few hours without interruption!

Something else we’ve been short on is family time. So we decided Friday to take ourselves on a fall family adventure. Our adventure took us across both the Brussels and Golden Eagle Ferries to historic St. Charles. We had lunch, enjoyed a little shopping and the beautiful weather. Then on our trek back across the ferries we hit a Roadside Market for pumpkins! I love these photos. A day worth remembering forever.

Thankful Thursday

This is a long one with lots of good stuff.

A successful wedding-filled weekend

Watching Owen play with his cousins

Seeing Owen in his tux – too cute!!

Fettuncini at Don and Penny’s – awesome!!

Seeing Jackie get ready for her big day…she looked amazing!

That my hair turned out really pretty!

That the soul of my shoe stayed put and I didn’t trip going down the aisle

That Owen made it up and down the aisle with a smile on his face both ways

Teaching Jonnie and Jer the lyrics to Bon Jovi’s You give Love a Bad Name. It basically included me singing the lyrics to them across the table and giving them the look like SERIOUSLY? I’m the only who knows this song?

Getting to hold baby Drew for the first time. Such a cutie!!

Seeing our Wisconsin Family

That everyone made it home safe and sound

That my hubby took me through Jack n the Box b/c I was starving on the way home!!

That my parents were a HUGE help with getting Owen down the aisle and helping us throughout the wedding day b/c both Jer and I were wedding party members! Thank you Mom and Dad!!

That Jackie and Paul put together a beautiful wedding day and we had a great time celebrating!

Spending Sunday with Jer and Owen

Playing at the park, playing in the back yard and watching Owen laugh at Deci as she did laps around him.

Sitting at our table out back and talking to Jer about how exhausted we were and how old we felt after a long couple of days!

Watching Nemo with Owen and hearing him laugh at Dori…EVERY time she was on the screen.

Rocking Owen to sleep Sunday night…after a long busy weekend with a busy toddler…having him finally snuggle up was a HUGE treat!

That Jer and I accidentally forgot to pick up our Jeep from the church Sunday and it made the perfect excuse to carpool Monday morning!

That carpooling with Jer even on a Monday morning was hilarious…and it was good to have a buddy to help me deal with the traffic jams and accidents the fog caused!

Crafting with Steff…our fall garland is lookin’ good!

Steff’s Mexican lasagna…yummy!!

That even though Jer had to work late Wednesday night and that wasn't cool, I got to spend some fun time just me and Owen.  That was awesome!

Wearing two new sweaters two days in a row. I LOVE having fun new fall clothes!!

A fun-filled weekend of festive holiday fun and birthdays ahead of us.

Retracting my Statement

Remember here where I said we picked our final batch of tomatoes? Apparently I was extremely mistaken! This looks to be our last, though we still have a few straggling tomatoes out there that are green. I think this is the biggest batch we’ve ever picked at one time…and here I thought we were all finished! HA!

An Outpouring of Love

A week ago Saturday, there was a golf tournament hosted in Mike Linley’s honor. And it truly was an outpouring of love from everyone in the community. 22 teams of 4 showed up to play golf and contribute to the cause. There was also a silent auction held at the American Legion along with a dinner following the tournament. The day was amazing. People dressed in Cubs attire, gave away free hot dogs, made mountains of spaghetti, created baskets, gave their time, talent and love to support Mike in this battle he’s been fighting. It was an honor to be a part of something so much bigger than ourselves. What a wonderful reminder of the resilience and faith you can find in others. Thank you God for touching our lives through other’s giving spirits. Days like last Saturday don’t come along often and we are truly blessed!!

**Owen was out and supporting Grandpa too! This was as close as he came to teeing off ;)**

Later Gator

So even though it’s been up forever now, I wanted to share some photos of Owen playing on his swing set for the first time. I came across the photos when doing some downloading to CD's. And the pictures were too cute not to post!! Yes…he’s in his alligator PJ’s that say "snap snap" all over the pants. But we were so excited for him to wander around with it all put together we took him out at 7:30 in the morning!

A late Thankful Thursday and a Big weekend ahead!

Celebrating our anniversary

Paying $5 for an 8pm movie on a Thursday night!

Ricotta pizza and draft beers

Eating our dinner outside – even though it was a little cold

That at this same outdoor meal, Jer got my vest from the car b/c I was cold…even though I said I wasn’t b/c it didn’t match my outfit. WHILE I sat and shivered.

Jer’s joke about people watching us leave…He said it was b/c my vest didn’t match my scarf. He’s hilarious…insert sarcasm.

A Friday spent with my boys, doing fun fall things and enjoying some time to laugh and have fun together

Buying 4 pumpkins, a jar of apple butter, Indian corn, a huge jug of Apple Cider for less than $30!!

My new Fall Flag hanging outside my house - $8 at Target…it was quite the steal!!

Spending Saturday at a golf tournament held for Mike.

Steff spending the day with me and Owen while everyone golfed!

Mom watching Owen so I could take in the Legion dinner and enjoy visiting with family before they left town.

Winning the auction for a basket of full of stuff for margaritas…complete with cups and limes!

Visiting with Aunt Laurie, Uncle Alex, Chase, Carter, Aunt Sue and Mom and Dad at Grafton Winery on Sunday! It was great afternoon to catch up with everyone!!

Spending the week preparing for the wedding celebration this coming weekend.

Downloading Microsoft Office 2007 at work and LOVING it!

Pandora Radio

That though our furnace needed looked at by a repair man; they came the next day at 10am. Hardly any waiting at all!

It’s not sub-zero outside and not having our furnace right now doesn’t mean we have to go somewhere else to sleep or worry about our pipes bursting or anything like that ;)

Accomplishing a few wedding errands with April Thursday evening...and having the full attention of the ladies at Beatiful Nails!  It was a busy but fun evening!

And the big weekend ahead:
This weekend kicks off a family filled wedding weekend for Jackie and Paul. Jer, Owen and I will be putting on our Sunday best and helping Jackie and Paul ring in the start to their married lives! I will be back next week with lots of pictures and stories from the weekend! Until then, I’ve got a few fun things to post! See you next week!

Five Years Ago Today

Five years ago today, I met this amazing man at the end of the aisle.

Five years ago today, I took vows of forever and said I do.

Five years ago today, we celebrated the beginning of something pretty special.

In those five years, these fresh faces have managed to stay together, stay focused, stay in love and stay a team.

Today, just as five years ago, I would do it all again in a heartbeat.  I love you Jer. You are my forever.

Celebrating Jackie’s bachelorette party…and finding out just how old I really am!

Staying up till 2am…for the first time in a LONG time!

Having dinner with Mike and Stacey at Don and Penny’s…the first family dinner out in a very long time!

A productive Sunday

A bottle of Apple Crisp wine from my best friend…because…she’s great like that!

Time spent with Owen, playing, watching movies, running errands

Getting to watch him grow and learn something new everyday!!

A late start to a Monday morning…but one where I remembered my coffee, my breakfast and my lunch. Traffic rocked and all of that made up for the fact that I didn’t have the greatest night’s sleep!!

Spending Monday night learning about Financial Peace

Getting to chat with my Dad for a few minutes on the phone!

Getting fitted for a nightguard b/c apparently I clench my jaw at night and don't know it...and it's causing me pain!  I hope this is the answer!

Reminiscing about our wedding day and our honeymoon.

Planning a visit to the Lake...Jer and I's first official get away for more than a weekend since we've had Owen.

The Final Batch

This weekend Jer collected the final batch of tomatoes out of our garden.  It's amazing to me how much just 3 small plants ended up producing for us over the summer.

What a great summer garden!  I can't wait to try it all over again next year!

One seriously productive Sunday!

This past Sunday Jer spent the whole day over at his Dad’s house. Ever since Mike has been home, Jer’s been itching to put a little sweat equity into the yard. I think it’s a way for him to love on his Dad and Stacey. If you want someone to make a yard look immaculate, he’s the guy for the job. I'm not just partial...it’s amazing what he can accomplish in a day. I’m proud of how hard he works and that he always puts 100% into what he’s doing, or he doesn’t do it at all. Jer, I admire you so much.

While I certainly admire my husband's hard work ethic, I will fully and whole-heartedly admit that I am sick to death of spending entire days apart. We’ve had quite a few this year, and I’ve learned a lot about the good ways to handle it. And if I were honest, some bad ways to handle it.  While I can’t always be as ok with it  (or motivated) as I was yesterday, I do try my best. So while he was gone, I started running down the list of our household chores/honey-do’s, etc. If he was going to be productive, I would too. That way we were both doing some good with our day!  I feel that I accomplished a lot!! In a days time, I was able to:

Feed Owen breakfast
Run a few necessary errands (groceries and Target) and enjoy some time with my Mom
Put Owen down for a nap
Clean House – including scrubbing, mopping and dusting every room
Change a light bulb in our impossibly high closet ceiling.
Put together some lanterns I’ve had on my to-do list from forever ago (photo coming soon).
Feed Owen Lunch
Unclog a very clogged bathroom sink
Enjoy a surprise visit from Steff and Bry! They brought me Apple Crisp wine from Grafton Winery! And thanks Bry for changing my vacuum belt ;)
Cook a delicious meal of open faced meatball sandwiches which included homemade garlic bread and yummy provel cheese!
Feed Owen dinner.
Watch Robots with Owen and help him stack his blocks.
Give Owen a bath where we played with his bath time letters and numbers.
Wash up dishes from dinner
Finish invitations for April’s shower which included, printing address and return address labels and stuffing envelopes!
A bubble bath was on my list; however, I was too exhausted to go to the effort. My sweats were just fine!!

I was exhausted, but it felt great when I crashed in bed and watched an episode of The Defenders right next to my sunburned, exhausted, ice-packed husband!

Happy end of another long Monday everyone! Let it be a good week!
