Laughter is the Best Medicine!

When Owen first started smiling, it was during his dreams while he was sleeping. A few weeks ago he began smiling at us. If we talked funny to him or made a funny face...and even when we played with or kissed his feet. So he's been smiling on and off now for a couple weeks. Our doctor told us at his last appointment, that laughter would follow soon after the smiles and to be looking for that. We were excited!

The past couple days, Owen had been a little fussier than usual. (No it's not because of the above picture...or well...maybe it is? Thank you Dad for taking it while Mom was not in the room!) It almost seemed like if he was awake, he was crying. This isn't like him. Sure he cries, but never for very long and usually just when he needs something. It killed me and Jer because even if we did calm him down...it would last for a few minutes and he'd start up again! Poor little guy! We're not sure what's going on...but we got a parent's most cherished reward last night in the middle of a fussing fit! Last night...we got our first official laugh! Owen had just finished with a bottle and Jer had changed him. I put him in my lap on the rocker and we were both bouncing him and talking to him. Jer got really close to him, made a funny face and squeezed his belly. Not only did this make him smile...it made him laugh! Not just a little laugh...a big one! We looked at each other and cracked up laughing...which made him laugh again. And the best part? He didn't do it just those two times...he did it several more times when we gave his belly a tickle. It was priceless!

Gotta love firsts and laughter through tears!

The pic cracked me up! That is absolutely hilarious. Those baby laughs are the best too. I'm excited he shared his laugh with you guys!
