The weekend after his first birthday we started Owen down the road of milk rather than formula. This change led us into a very trying week. Poor Owen didn’t understand why we were not only switching what was in his bottle, but taking away the bottles he very much enjoyed. I’m sure there are tons of methods for making the change. I’m also sure someone out there thinks we babied him for taking him from 4 bottles to 2 bottles a day. And still someone else out there thinks it was cruel and unusual punishment to take them away at all. However, after one week of changes, and the discovery of what we felt was a fair trade off for his bottle (Nuby makes a great sippy cup that he took to very well) we have victory! We have a son who went from refusing to eat anything we put in front of him, (we joked he was staging a boycott…no bottles…Owen no eat) to wanting a bit of everything we have in our hands. AND he is no longer drinking from bottles at all. The first few days were hard. And he was crabby for most of the week. But, by the following Sunday he drank all from sippy cups and nothing but milk. Which he has discovered he LOVES! Along with a number of foods! Eating is fun again, so much so that the other night he and I split the banana I had opened for myself. We followed it with a dinner of spaghetti and some chocolate milk.
Good or bad, right or wrong, it worked for him. And I’m 100% grateful that life is back to normal around our house!
