Some craftiness…for the Big Celebration!

I tried to put some very special touches on Owen’s party. I know in the future parties will consist of bowling alley’s or pizza places or Disney characters on the plates and napkins. And I can’t wait for those parties. For Owen to ask for a Spider Man party or a Backyardigans Party. But for this year, I enjoyed the fact that we were able to honor our little boy…our baby…with the kind of party he deserved without themeing it around a character. I tried to give him a party that expressed our love for him because we put ourselves into it. And filled it with things that I hope stirred up the feelings our first year with him brought to us. Love, happiness, peace, wonderment. I hope he will look back at pictures and see me and his Dad pouring out of the small touches. The flowers and balloons and everything else. We had real flowers and pictures and stories about him. Cupcakes that had polka dots. Both make me happy!  Balloons with bees b/c bees that made me think of him and his favorite movie Bee Movie. So, spring and bees and happiness abounded in my thoughts not only preparing for his party, but while at his party. In order to do it how I wanted though…I had to get a little crafty!

I am taking Steff’s lead (some, myself included, would call it copying) and documenting my craft/project progress b/c I thought it was worth sharing and I fully enjoyed myself. Check out what she did here. And also here. Adorable!

Here are some pictures of the flowers for the middle of the tables and the favors. Not hard to make…AT ALL. All you need you will find listed below!

Flower Cup Favor:
Violas (I ordered a citrus mix…so it was yellow and white)
20qt bag of potting soil
White paper cups
Ribbon
Simply un-pot the violas and transfer to paper cups. Spoon a little dirt in the bottom of the cups. Fill with some dirt and water. Wrap a matching ribbon around the outside. Tah Dah! Favors! I also created little cards that sat against the cups…pictured below. Simple cardstock, cut into squares, matted with a photo in the middle and a thank you sentiment on the back! A little inking on the edges and you’ve got a cute custom card!

These appeared at each seat for our guests!
The finished product Easter weekend thriving in my Mom and Dad's backyard!

Centerpieces:
6 inch Blue, White or Pink (I choose white but they were sold out so we got blue!) Hyacinths
8in terracotta pots (Walmart $2.50)
Same 20qt bag of soil I used for the favors

Then just repotted Hyacinths into 8in terracotta pots. Super easy and gave such a pretty touch on the tables.
