My last two doctor's visits have been of the weekly variety!!
Last week...we saw Dr. Talsky on a Friday. I was nearing 37 weeks. Cooper's size was nearing 7lbs. I was measuring around 37/38 weeks. We learned that he was also positioned in an oblique position, meaning his head was not fully down, but sort of off to the side and his body was also then sort of turned to his side. As I progressed, he should work his way down. We listened to Cooper's heartbeat and it was a nice steady 136 or so. My blood pressure was good and everything looked awesome! I was told I looked great for an August 1 c-section and to keep up the good work. We also were told to return in a week.
Today I went back to the office for another checkup. This week the swelling in my feet and hands has flared up quite a bit compared to even this same time last week. I'm sure the insane heat and humidity do not help my case. Regardless my feet still look better in 105 degrees and 38 weeks along than they did in freezing cold March weather at 35 weeks along with Owen! Because of this swelling in my hands, I have started to experience some numbness in my hands and fingers. Dr. Talsky mentioned early on with me having a desk job, to be careful about pregnancy induced carpal tunnel. Luckily I'm nearly done with everything, so other than keeping my hands and wrists even as much as possible, I think it's a tough it out kind of deal. But it's definitely been waking me up at night. I even have my hands fall asleep while driving the car!
At today's appointment Cooper and I saw Deb. She is the nurse practitioner for Dr. Talsky. He had to go deliver a baby this morning just as he was arriving to the hospital!! His job is never done! After our visit with Deb, I learned that Cooper's head is officially down. Way down there was the term that was used! He was a turkey for his momma and Deb because every time she would get his heartbeat on the monitor, he rolled away! But it was a nice and steady 132 or so. Slowing down is normal for this late in the game. He is getting bigger and bigger and has less space to move! This time it was decided that I should be checked to see how things were progressing. According to Deb we are starting to efface and soften. I have not started to dialate yet, but she made sure to inform me that with second pregnancies many times the softening is a sign that things are not far off. So I was instructed to take it easy and stay out of the heat. There is no need with a scheduled c-section to put myself into labor. And Cooper having another week or so of time with me is probably the best thing for him!!
So all in all...everything is going wonderfully! I am getting more and more uncomfortable by the day. And more and more excited for his arrival. I can't wait to see his little face and kiss his fingers and toes!! I go back to the doctor next Friday for one final checkup and then we head Monday morning for our big day!!!
