2015 Summer Run Down - August, The Second Half

On Owen's last day of summer break I made some plans with my Mom to have a end of summer fun.  After a little planning we decided to go to Mom and Dad's and let the boys run around in their skivvies and play.  The pictures speak for themselves!

The boys requested we make mud out of the dirt…and boy did we make some mud.

This day was one for the record books…pure summertime fun at its finest!  The perfect way to cap off a summer break and start the school year...

But our last name is Linley…so thereby sometimes…the fun is dropped in along with some chaos and well…interesting challenges.  I've said multiple times that I feel like our life is wonderful and awesome and amazing.  And our challenges aren't those kind of challenges that make you feel like you can't go on.  But we are thrown chaos like this for example…it's the day before school starts.  We just recovered from a 4 day fever virus just in time for school. Jeremy is on a business trip all day in a spot with little cell phone reception and we take off to play at my Mom's.  Well while were there playing and having hay day Owen jams a giant piece of wood in his fingers….
Though we tried Mom and I could NOT come close to getting it out ourselves…I knew we needed the ER.
Thankfully my Dad was able to meet us at the ER while Mom stayed with the other two kids. Once there, they stuck Owen in a back-board style straight-jacket to hold him steady and put his finger to sleep.  Here he is telling me and Dad his finger is asleep and he can't feel it.  There was much drama, tears, screaming and more straight-jacketing before they could get him all cleaned up…BUT...
After digging into his nail bed about as far down as I've ever seen a doctor do and being thankful he didn't lose his nail…we headed home with antibiotic ointment, 7 days of oral antibiotic and bandaids.
Oh and these tools.  Which the cool pincher things have already gone down my bathroom sink drain thanks to Cooper.  I am a boy mom…in case anyone had any doubts!!
A little pic stitch of Owen's date with me and Jeremy to get new shoes after his school orientation (the day before the splinter incident)…his splinter and removal…and our fun-ish last days of our summer!!
This glass of wine was warranted when I got home!
Then…the next morning (Owen's first day of school) I woke up with the stomach flu. It lasted 3 solid days and for a week I had cramping every time I sat down too long or ate anything.
BAM!  How ya like them apples???  I was not a fan! I said being a Linley was chaos right???

Here's Owen on his first day of school…1st Grade. Mrs. Dinnius. Lovejoy Elementary.  Cannot believe how big he is getting!!
I love this kid so much!!

Then the next victim of the stomach bug was Grey.  He was bopping along the same night after it hit me and BAM.  Vomit.  He then proceeded to eat his full dinner and 20 minutes later.  BAM more vomit.  He also woke up in the middle of the night with vomit.  BUT was then fine for a full 2 days and woke up overnight 2 nights later with vomit.  Seriously folks.  What the hey??? Whatever happened to 24/48 hour stomach bugs?
Popsicle buddies.

That weekend we finally started feeling better…and we took off for some house hold essentials.  In our house when Momma is sick…the house is seriously neglected.  This picture…not withstanding the front of a Walmart store…is my heart walking in a row right in front of me.
Reading homework!  First grade is work man!
Not gonna lie I'm excited about this!!
We took off on a park date with Steff and Peyton.  We love the Airplane Park in Edwardsville…it's a bit of a drive but it's lots of fun! And Greyson loves this bouncy bridge!
You'll notice a slight rash on his shoulders yes?  If only we knew what was coming!!
The next morning he woke up with it creeping on up his face…and his shoulders…he was covered not he top half of his little body.  Since recently recovering from the stomach flu I didn't know if this was related to the virus or something new…but with it spreading to his face, I knew we needed to see the doctor.  He was acting like his usual little happy self…so we took Owen to school, then while we waited for our appointment…we stopped and grabbed a donut.

Withint minutes of the doctors appointment we were diagnosed with Fifth's Disease.  It lasts at least a week and a half to two weeks…it will likely get worse before it gets better…and there isn't anything you can do.  Well though they did say it wouldn't bother him…when his whole entire body was covered in this thing I did end up giving him some advil…the rash was HOT to the touch and he had a couple rough naps.  Anyway…if you ever get it, you can't get it again…and guess what?  Both the other boys got it too about a week after Greyson.  Supposedly you are not contagious once the rash appears…but I am not sure I fully believe that because we definitely spread it to Owen and Coop.  Who knows.  Either way it was a long, splotchy red week for Mr. Greyson!

Even covered in a rash he's still the most adorable little 19 month old I know!!
That weekend the big boys were headed to stay with my parents for a sleep over and while Daddy helped Uncle Jonnie work on something in his yard…Greyson and I took off to the first ever Alton Food Truck Festival down town at the amphitheater.   The lines were long but while Greyson and I went and got some drinks, Aunt April and Aunt Jackie stood in line for food…including dessert. Yum!!

If this isn't a coffee mug I need I don't know what one I do need!
After an early Monday morning Owen's drop off we met Grandma the park for a walk.  It wasn't hot as blazes yet so we were trying to take advantage!  Here we are waiting for Grandma...

That afternoon after the park the rash came raging.  It was always worse when he was warm.  Here you can see it down his little legs, arms and face!
This summer was an exercise in this clinging to this verse…and a few others.  Making sure my heart was making the right plan and also that I was listening to God to help craft the plan. Though I am not new to my faith walk…some could say I've been off the path a ways.  This summer I allowed myself to really try to listen to God.  I finally feel like I heard God speak to me.  Not a booming voice…but in other ways.  If I had a worry that I gave to him, something happened to calm that worry.  If I was asking about a plan I was making…God put things in place for those plans to come to fruition.  Though I am no where near where I need to be with my faith…this feels like a new beginning.
And that wraps up our summer!  All in all this past summer was not my favorite.  We had a lot of fun…but we also started and ended it with sickness. There was also a lot of rain in the beginning and some cooler temps.  So a lot of our plans were thrown in the garbage because of things out of our control. I feel like we missed a lot of the usual fun of summer. I'm used to being ready to trade in our sunscreen and swim suits for sweatshirts and hot chocolates come fall…but this year I wanted it to last a little bit longer!  So anyway, here's to a summer of learning lessons…of learning to roll with the punches better…entertain my kids after days on end of being stuck in the house…and knowing when I needed to straight up get out of the house and be around other people.  Yay for a new school year…new routines and lots of fun ahead!
