2 Year Checkup!

On March 31, we took Owen into the doctor. It was for his 2 year checkup!!

I am happy to report that he is doing extremely well.  He is healthy.  His weight and height are still in the 90th percentile…but all of it is proportioned just right so that is great news!

He weighs in at 33 pounds and is 36 inches tall!  He’s certainly our big boy :)

At this appointment we discussed lots and lots of things about Owen.  We got great advice on his picky eating habits and a few other tips!  We also discussed his lack of verbal communication.  Owen communicates…but most of the time it’s non-verbal. He also understands what you say to him and follows instruction. He has words, but he does not put 2 sentence words together and sometimes when he does attempt to say things…they sound nothing like what they really are. It’s also strange because sometimes, words are clear as day as well.

So on April 19th, we take Owen to get a hearing test.  Our doctor wanted us to have that tested first before we begin any kind of speech therapy.  Basically if there is a hearing issue, we will see an Ear Specialist. If it is a speech deficit then we will begin therapy.  So…everyone please send up a few prayers that we find the right answer with this for Owen!  Jer and I are excited to get him talking and to be able to learn some tools to help him get more and more of his expressive language skills up to speed with his age!!

We are also blessed to have a happy, healthy little man who lights up our world!!  I can’t wait to see what his second year of life has in store for us!

***Hearing Test Results!
As an update to the above post…we took Owen for his hearing evaluation.  This test was actually really easy and the lady who did it was awesome!  I am also happy to report he got a clean bill of health for hearing.  All good on that front.

What does that mean for us now??  We have a referral to Early Intervention.  Owen will have someone come and do a speech and language evaluation on him to see exactly what is going on with his speech development.  I currently have a call into the Child and Family Connections number to get this appointment set up.  I’m nervous, but also very motivated to get Owen talking more!  So I hope this helps us all communicate in a little bit better manner and cut down on some of Owen’s frustrations with things he’s trying to communicate!!

Also in the past several weeks, Owen's speech seems to have really began to come together.  He's not what you would classify as normal for his age, but he's making big strides!  This makes my heart so happy for him!

Prayers for us as we embark down this unknown road. It's sure to be an adventure!
