The Thursday night before Owen’s 2nd birthday, he woke up at 1am screaming. I went to check on him and found him covered in throw up and burning up with a fever. I will spare you the rest of the details because that is pretty much the long and short of how Owen’s party got cancelled! We spent Friday eating crackers, drinking juice and trying to make sure we didn’t have a recurrence of the throwing up! Luckily Jer had taken that Friday off to get things ready for Owen’s party…so we were able to be together as a family. His fever really never did get much better and we decided to still decorate the house, order him balloons and such…but we would nix the party with 20 people at our house. I was afraid that A) guests might get the germs and B) it would get him a little too wound up and we would end up with a screaming baby at 2am. While we ended up with a screaming baby at 2am anyway, we didn’t let that stop us from having a similar version of his 2 year celebration we had planned. I finished the picture frames and birthday banner that I had in mind and also let everyone know if they wanted to stop by and see Owen on his big day that would be great. And honestly the way it worked out was pretty perfect for him! Owen had a smattering of visitors throughout the day. He got wonderful hugs and presents and the day was so special. We also got a little springtime snowfall that Saturday afternoon. And from the cozy warmth of our living room we watched the snow come falling down on my freshly planted pansies! Though the party was not quite the shindig we had planned, at least this year it happened on a year when he didn’t’ understand that we had to cancel. Momma and Dadda were more disappointed that he was! So even though we were battling the flu bug...I also got to spend some wonderful quality time with my husband and son. We got to see our family all day long and watch Owen open fun presents throughout the day and enjoy getting loving from everyone important in his life!! We ate some delicious birthday cake and watched some wonderful movies to cap off our evening.
Oh and an update on the flu? He ran a fever through Monday morning. This then led us to the doctor’s office. He was subjected to another chest x-ray. Luckily this time…it was just a virus and nothing else!! By Monday night the fever seemed to disappear just as quickly as it had come.
I truly think that God knows what he’s doing after all!! B/c a weekend in wasn’t such a bad plan for the Linley 4 after all! Thank you God for unexpected blessings.
So here’s some photos of presents and the fun Owen-inspired touches that we put together for his big second birthday!!! It was a great day truly worthy of remembering always :)
